Introduction to PP Flame-Retardant Board
1. Basic Concept of PP Flame-Retardant Board
PP Flame-Retardant Board, manufactured by Cangzhou Shengliang Plastic Products Co., Ltd., is a plastic board made primarily from polypropylene (PP) with added flame retardants and other additives. It exhibits excellent flame-retardant properties and chemical stability.
2. Product Specifications of PP Flame-Retardant Board
- Thickness:
- For rolls: 0.8 mm to 2 mm.
- For flame-retardant PP boards (3 mm and above): up to 40 mm.
- Width:
- Standard width is 2 meters, customizable as per requirements.
- Length:
- Unlimited length.
- Colors:
- Standard colors include white, gray, black, and off-white; other colors can be customized.
3. Advantages of PP Flame-Retardant Board
- Flame-Retardant Properties:
- The flame-retardant additives absorb heat generated during combustion, slowing the burning rate. They form an oxygen-isolating layer (e.g., phosphide compounds) that promotes self-extinguishing by blocking oxygen. Additionally, they can produce free radicals that react with the plastic to form flame-retardant compounds or release gases that smother flames.
- Physical Properties:
- Low density, with superior strength, rigidity, hardness, and heat resistance compared to low-pressure polyethylene, usable at around 100°C. It offers excellent electrical properties and high-frequency insulation unaffected by humidity. However, it becomes brittle at low temperatures, is less resistant to mold, and prone to aging.
- As a semi-crystalline material, it is harder than PE and has a higher melting point. Extruded PP boards are lightweight, uniformly thick, smooth, and flat, with good heat resistance and high mechanical strength.
- Chemical Properties:
- Excellent chemical stability, resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, oxidation, and UV radiation. It is non-toxic, odorless, colorless, and harmless, with low shrinkage, excellent weldability, reliable insulation, and easy processability, making it an ideal material for thermoforming and corrosion resistance.
4. Disadvantages of PP Flame-Retardant Board
- Low moisture absorption but prone to melt fracture; prolonged contact with hot metal may cause decomposition.
- Good flowability but a large shrinkage range and value, leading to potential shrinkage cavities, dents, or deformation.
- Fast cooling rate requires slow heat dissipation in the pouring and cooling systems, with careful control of molding temperature. Low material temperature increases directional issues, especially under low-temperature, high-pressure conditions. Mold temperatures below 50°C may result in rough surfaces, poor fusion, or marks, while temperatures above 90°C may cause warping.
- Plastic wall thickness must be uniform to avoid glue shortages or sharp corners, preventing stress concentration.
5. Application Areas of PP Flame-Retardant Board
- Used in industries such as power, energy, and chemicals, including applications in chemical containers, exhaust emission systems, electroplating, semiconductors, water treatment, corrosion-resistant equipment, and environmental engineering.
- Suitable for processing into parts, vacuum forming, decoration, and printing. It is used in general mechanical components, corrosion-resistant parts, insulation components, medical equipment, food machinery, and architectural decoration industries.
